Oh the cozy simplicity of a knee-high pair of socks. What is it about their comfy goodness that makes them so desirable? I imagine bopping around the house wearing a gorgeous silk romper, long cashmere cardigan and the perfect pair of knee high socks, lip syncing to my heart's content. It's a happy imagination land.

Anyway...I first fell in love with knee-highs during my Bye Bye Birdie obsession phase when I was a kid. I went through various movie musical obsessions growing up (My Fair Lady, Gypsy, Funny Girl, Xanadu...yes you read that right...Xanadu). During the song "how lovely to be a woman," Ann Margaret is getting changed from her dress clothes to her hang around the house outfit, and along with her dark denim jeans and fluffy mohair sweater, she puts on the most amazing argyle knee high socks! It was one of my favorite parts of the movie. Seriously. I would imitate how she put on the socks whenever I put my own on. I mean why just throw them on, make it show I say!

I'm still on the hunt for the perfect knee-high pair though, that doesn't cost a bundle. Ones that are soft, but durable and will stay in place, without being too tight (who wants that weird leg indent that stays tattooed on your skin long after the socks come off). Oh and preferably...they're argyle. ;)

NOTE: Have you ever listened to some of the lyrics from musicals that you may have loved as a kid and find yourself absolutely flabbergasted. So in that vein...just ignore the part of this song that says "how lovely to be a woman and have one job to do, to pick out a boy and train him...and then when you are through, you've made him the man you want him to be." To quote my jewish ancestors "OY."
